About Us

What is a Credit Union?
A credit union is an association of people, united by a common bond, organized under state or federal law so they may pool their individual resources to save and lend at favorable rates. Credit unions operate “not for profit, not for charity, but for service.” A credit union is owned and controlled by its members.

Our History
East Texas Telco Credit Union was organized June 26, 1951, as a state-chartered credit union in a Longview home. The credit union served employees of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Longview. As the credit union grew, the location was moved to where the credit union now sits, and another branch in Tyler was added in 1996. In 1997, the board chose to change the name of the credit union to Telco Plus Credit Union to better reflect the expanded membership base.

Today, Telco Plus Credit Union serves anyone who lives or works in Gregg or Smith counties. To establish membership, a savings account must be opened with a minimum deposit of $25. Once membership is established, you are available to take advantage of our other great products and services.

To open an account, simply come by either location and bring your driver's license, Social Security card and minimum deposit.

Telco Plus Credit Union offers the utmost in security to our members. Accounts are federally insured up to $250,000 through the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), a U. S. government agency.

Who Can Join?

 

Membership Eligibility:

Telco Plus Credit Union provides all the benefits of a member-owned financial institution to anyone who lives or works in Gregg or Smith County, or has a family member that is a Telco Plus member, or works for any of our 200+ sponsor companies.


Important Information About Procedures For Opening A New Account

To help the government fight the funding of terrorism and money laundering activities, Federal law requires all financial institutions to obtain, verify and record information that identifies each person who opens an account.

What this means for you: When you open an account, we will ask for your name, address, date of birth, and other information that will allow us to identify you. We will also ask to see your driver’s license, SS card, or other identifying documents.

 

 

Switch over to Telco Plus Credit Union, follow the steps and use our forms from our Switch Kit to make the transition easier.

Open Your New Account
Your first step is to open a Telco Plus savings account. Once this account is open, you have access to all of our products and services, including free checking and low-cost loans. Please fill out the Switch Kit Forms and bring them into the branch nearest you.

Switch Your Automatic Transactions
Our Switch Kit contains forms that will help you contact the companies and financial institutions that handle your automatic deposits and withdrawals. Anyone in Member Services will be happy to assist you with filling out the forms. We even include a convenient checklist to help you keep track of people you may need to contact.

** Notices ** If you currently use Bill Pay thru another financial institution, Bill Pay is NOT a preauthorized transfer. You will need to cancel your old bill pay and set up Bill Pay with Telco Plus. If you use your debit card for automatic payments, you will need to contact the merchant to give them the new number, or take the opportunity to set up payments off your new account. Most companies can change your information by phone or online, while some still require you to use their forms.
